For those who live in apartments in CERT Area 28, the following Disaster Response Plan may be published for all those in the apartment complex to follow.
We have a disaster response plan that is initiated in the event of a “general” disaster that affects a lot of people and overwhelms the usual public emergency services, such as fire, ambulance, and police. Our plan is that whenever something unusual happens, things that are out of the ordinary such as a loud noise, a power outage, a strange smell, a flash of light, a strong wind, etc. take the opportunity to check on your neighbors who live adjacent to you. As you participate in this “practice” you will be ready for an actual disaster. When an earthquake or other disaster happens, do the same thing, knock on the door of your neighbors and see if they're okay.
We are also part of a larger organization/plan called the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). On the third Sunday of each month at 8:10 pm on 2-way radio channel 8.5, our Area has a communications roll call to prepare and be ready for disasters. At 8:20 pm on the third Sunday of each month on FRS radio channel 6.5 our CERT District (Stake) has a communications drill. Also, at 8:20pm each Sunday on ham radio frequency 147.480, our District has a roll call and at 8:30 pm every Sunday evening on frequency 147.440, the Kaysville Storehouse Region conducts a disaster communications exercise.
So, what is the Disaster Response Plan for those who live in apartments or condominiums? Whenever something unusual happens, check on your neighbors, ask them if they heard, saw, or smelled something unusual, and then tell them you just wanted to make sure they're okay.
